What Does It Mean To Be Saved

God Eternal Purpose in the New Covenant - Part 8
Dr. Allen M. Barber

Psalms 89:3-4 NKJV

3 "I have made a covenant with My chosen,
I have sworn to My servant David:
4'Your seed I will establish forever,
And build up your throne to all generations.'"

This passage from the Psalms is not a promise under the Old Covenant, but the New as David's seed is the Lord Jesus. We know this from Galatians 3:16:

16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed ," who is Christ. NKJV

The throne to be established forever is the throne of our Lord Jesus Christ that was made possible by the New Covenant. The kingly throne under the Old Covenant was conditioned upon obedience and they all failed including Solomon. Therefore, God removed the reign of the kings under the old economy:

Hosea 3:4-5 NKJV

4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. 5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.

This passage has been misinterpreted by pretribulationist. This prophecy began to be fulfilled with the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities in the 7th and 6th century B.C. Then it was finally completed during the Roman occupation of the first century A.D. with the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 70 A.D. The Jews have no king even to this day. The phrase, David their king  is not a reference to the dead patriarch, but to his descendent, Christ. Notice it also says after a long period of time, the Israelites shall return and seek the Lord their God. The Hebrew meaning of return is not to a piece of real estate in the Middle East, but one of repentance and contrition. It obviously means they will repent and seek the Lord in the last days. That is certainly not the situation today in the nation of Israel and among the Jews (some are coming to Christ, but the nation as a whole remains in unbelief).

As a race of people, they are not going to repent and seek the Lord until He returns (See Romans 11: 26-27). This is why the secular nation of Israel is not fulfilling the covenant promises for the redemption of Israel. The remnant that survives the tribulation and who accepts the Lord when He returns are those who will come into the New Covenant along with all the redeemed of the Church both Jews and Gentiles. However, God is not going to resurrect the old Israelite monarchy as rulers in His kingdom. No, Christ is going to establish His kingdom on the earth, which will be a Christological kingdom and rule the nations along with His bride, the Church. He is not going to rule the nations through an Israelite kingdom for if that were to take place, then the New Covenant would make no sense.

The New Covenant abolished everything about the Old economy; the Aaronic priesthood, the physical throne, the physical temple, etc. Christ fulfilled all these which were the shadows, but not the substance. The Lord will rule the nations through His spiritual temple, the redeemed saints, which is His Church and the Israel of God. The Rothschild created secular nation of Israel is attempting to create a Zionist state whereby a "New Israel" shall rule the world via their King of the Jews -  the Luciferian Masonic Messiah. This will take place before Christ returns, but will be short - lived.

The Jewish Encyclopedia (1922) identified modern Jewry as Edom. The tribe of Judah conquered and absorbed the House of Esau - Edom in about 137 B.C. so that today, the Jews living in the land of Israel are a mixture of Jews and Edomites. Therefore, God is fulfilling a dual prophecy in the land of Israel that involves the House of Jacob - Judah and the House of Esau - Edom. Both are destined for destruction. A remnant of the exiles will come to the Lord at the very end of the tribulation as the above passage implies as well as Amos 9: 11-15.

God's eternal purpose in the New Covenant is to bring the believing remnant of Jews into the New Covenant because all the promises God gave to Abraham are fulfilled in the New not the Old. God is more concerned about the salvation of the Jews than He is in having them occupy a piece of real estate. The New Covenant is a spiritual covenant. It is not about lands, temple buildings, red heifers, animal sacrifices, etc. It is about people coming into covenant relationship with the God of the universe and that includes the Jews. No Jew can have a relationship with God apart from Jesus Christ. They must come into the New Covenant. This is why Christians should be witnessing to the Jews that they need Jesus Christ not trying to honor them under an Old Covenant as John Hagee unfortunately is trying to do.

Christians need to read their Bibles and get their heads out of the Old Covenant and learn what the New Covenant is about lest they remain confused about what is going on in the Middle East. My good friend Bill Koenig thinks that the Untied States is being punished by God for interfering in the land and nation of Israel when the fact is we may be under the judgment of God for propping up Zionism and the Old Covenant. Read what the book of Hebrews had to say to the Judaizers who examined the New Covenant, but rejected it to remain in the Old obsolete covenant:

Hebrews 10:26-31 NKJV

26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. And again, "The LORD will judge His people." 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Evangelical Christians who are enamored with the land of Israel and the secular nation along with its religion (Judaism) are fulfilling this text particularly Verse 29 and do not even realize it. The greatest love a Christian can show a Jew is to tell him or her that Jesus is their promised Messiah. This is the truth not the heresy Hagee teaches.
