What Does It Mean To Be Saved

This article is posted in the right navigation bar under Barber's Corner, but thought it would be appropriate on the Home Page in lieu of what is going on in our nation involving corrupt laws and executive orders:

Beware of False Teaching

There is a teaching among evangelicals that dates back to the 1970's promoted by Bill Gothard of the former Basic Youth Conflict Seminars that says we are obligated to be submissive and obey all authorities over us. The teaching held many women and wives in bondage because it taught wives should be submissive to abusive husbands. Gothard later redacted that teaching.

The other teaching I will address in this brief article is that we must obey all governmental authorities according to Romans 13. I mentioned this previously in another article:

Romans 13:1-8 (NKJV)

1  Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.
2  Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.
3  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.
For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
5  Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake.
6  For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers attending continually to this very thing.
7  Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
8  Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Now if we read this passage and stop at Verse 1, the implication is that we are to obey all authorities good or bad, but is that what the passage teaches?  Here is where the admonition from Proverbs to get wisdom and understanding comes into play. Notice in Verse 3 Paul says the purpose of authorities (all are under God's authority) is to do good and punish evil. We are not to be afraid of righteous and moral government, but what about evil rulers? Do we have to obey them. The answer is yes and no.

The highest civil law in the United States is the Constitution given to us by godly men - our founding fathers. Was it perfect? No, but it comes close to being the highest standard of law in the world because its overall principles are based on the Word of God. The highest authority and law in this world is the Word of God - the Hebrew and Greek Bible. It is not the Quran or any other book. Proverbs 30:5 says, Every word of God is tested and He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

The authorities ruling under God that administer truth and justice we are to obey. Are the authorities over us in the United States obligated to obey the Constitution? Yes, as it was originally written or the original intent.  When the Congress or the President refuse to obey the Constitution such as Obama has done and is doing, do we have to obey his executive orders or even the rulings of the courts such as the rulings of a liberal court like the 9th Circuit, which has crammed the homosexual agenda down the throats of parents and students in the California public schools or the rulings of the Supreme Court that says the Commerce Clause of the Constitution authorizes Congress to force citizens to purchase government sponsored health insurance? What about gun control, do we have to turn in our weapons or submit to background checks and register them with a photo ID?  The answer to all of these questions is an emphatic NO!  They all violate the Constitution as well as our conscience as Christians and believers in the Word of God. Notice Verse 5 above; the inverse of that is that we cannot for conscience obey the orders of bad rulers that set aside the Constitution and the laws of the land due to their personal preferences.

The Proverb reading for today 28:28 (I hope you are reading the appropriate Proverbs [31 of them] in your daily Bible readings as a Proverb a day will keep the enemy away, that is, if we obey them) says, When the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive. The Hebrew meaning of go into hiding means to cover over or conceal.  It would apply to the gun laws that the government is trying to past to take our guns. The Second Amendment gives us the right to own guns and the government shall not infringe upon that right. Therefore, we are not obligated to reveal whether we own guns or how many not even semi-automatic weapons.  Government is a terror to those who do evil.  We already have laws that punish those who use weapons to harm or kill the innocent.  As a society, we have an duty to report anyone who has a mental problem not to punish them but to get them help. The mother of Adam Lanza failed to keep her guns locked up and away from him as she knew he had serious mental problems. More than that the local community had the responsibility to have him institutionalized for his own good and protection. Therefore, guns are not the problem - people are!

The only people who should fear the authorities are those who do evil not those of us who are law abiding citizens. Of course that presupposes we have righteous government. Unfortunately in the United States we do not, maybe at the local level and some states, but the federal government and particularly under Obama is anything but righteous.

When a law is passed by our government or a presidential executive order, we are to filter it thought the lens of the Constitution and the Word of God. If it does not pass muster, we are not to obey it.  If the States would begin to oppose bad federal laws like the "land grabbing" laws that gobble up millions of acres of private lands that forbid the people from having access or the restrictive EPA rules that prevent farmers from having water to irrigate their crops, the government would be in a precarious position. In addition, if the government refuses to obey its own federal statutes regarding protecting our borders by arresting and deporting ALL illegal aliens, the States should refuse to obey the government such as the Arizona Governor has tried to do. The people of the United States of America are not required to obey wicked ruthless rulers who rule by their personal preferences and not by the Constitution and laws of the land. Obama and his AG, Eric Holder, arrogantly defy the federal Marriage Protection Act that defines marriage as between one man and one woman as well as Black on White voter crime.  If the federal government is not going to obey Constitution law because they don't agree with it, then why do we, THE PEOPLE, think we have to obey wicked laws? WE DON'T.

Now let me make it very clear; in disobeying evil rulers and their laws, it does not mean we resort to violence against them unless it is self defense. Read the disclaimer at the top of this page where this website denounces violence against the government in order to overthrow it or resist it. If the government becomes tyrannical and tries to implement martial law and throw out the Constitution, then we have a right to resist if it means using weapons to protect our rights and families.

I listened to a video of a man who claims to have information from a very high military source that says Obama has secretly questioned top military brass if they would order our troops to fire upon the American people in the event of civil disobedience. I tend to stay away from internet articles and videos that make strong proclamations, but will not reveal their sources so I have not posted the video.

Romans 13 is not a mandate to blindly obey every authority and their rulings. If we obey bad laws we are partner to evil and the Bible I read says we are to resist EVERY FORM of evil.

Christians sometimes forget we have weapons greater than material or physical ones. We have spiritual weapons  - prayer and the Word of God. Believers are supposed to be skilled in spiritual warfare, but unfortunately most don't know anything about it because it is not taught by the ministers. They don't know anything about it either so how can they teach it.

May the Lord grant us wisdom and understanding in all matters particularly as it applies to government and may we not be found to be simpletons, but wiser than serpents.
