Will All Believers Be Resurrected and Raptured At The Same Time?

This article is a dialogue with a reader and someone who is a very serious student of the Word of God (has a Ph.D). My reader audience may both enjoy and learn some truth they perhaps do not know.

Dear Reader (Name withheld to protect privacy):

The following I shared previously and is correct with some updates at least from my perspective as I do not believe all believers are going to receive their glorified bodies (spiritual flesh) at the first and better resurrection as the Book of Hebrews teaches and as Paul said he was striving for in Philippians 3:11 - the Greek actually says he was striving for the “out” resurrection from the dead implying that not all believers are going to be raised at the same time:

If we take the Scriptures from a strict literal perspective, I do not believe all believers will take part in the First Resurrection and enter the kingdom that occurs at the very beginning of the posttrib DOTL - Only the overcoming dead and living believers will (Jesus never told the whole body of believers in His message to the seven Churches of Asia they ALL would rule and reign with Him in His kingdom) and receive their glorified bodies (spiritual flesh). The blessed hope of Titus 2:13.

I Corinthian 15 is the resurrection chapter and in Verses 20-23 Paul gives us an “order” of how that will take place - most miss the meaning of “since by man (anthropos - mankind in general) came death, by man (again anthropos) also comes the resurrection of the dead” (all the dead which indicates the unbelieving dead and also the second resurrection). Even the unbelieving dead in hell will be summoned to the Great White Throne (alive in their spirits even though “dead spirits” - lacking the reborn experience).

Then in Verse 22 Paul explains what he meant in Verse 21 - because the human race was in the loins of Adam when he sinned, his death decree passes forward to every soul ever born on this earth so all must die (physically and for many spiritually). (Romans 5:12). In 22b, Paul switches gears so to speak and moves to the “Resurrection of believers” because the dead in spirit are never made alive (zoopoieo from Zoe which root means spiritual life as compared to natural life - same word used in John 3:16 for everlasting life). The man in verse 21 that brings the resurrection from the sphere of death is obviously Christ, which Verse 22 confirms. So we know from the conjunction “but” in Verse 23, “every man” is a reference to Christians, not men in general or the unsaved. That forces us to not isogete (not to add our opinion) to the text but to exegete (interpret properly the context).

Paul says in Verse 23 that “every man” (we know based on what I have explained above that phrase is a reference to those in Christ not unbelievers) and it means all believers will appear before Christ BUT EACH IN HIS OWN ORDER.  Clearly that proves not all believers will appear before Him at the same time. Pretrib makes a huge blunder trying to make the Bema a one time event. Anytime anyone stands before the Lord to give an account whether spiritual or carnal believers or the lost that is a BEMA. The Great White Throne is a BEMA because it is a judgment seat. Paul distinguishes between spiritual mature believers and carnal immature believers in I Corinthians 3 and says the carnal believer will barely make it in the Kingdom of God -  “yet so as by fire” I believe is after their works have been examined by the Word of God (the Word of God is referred to several times in the Scripture as a “fire”) there is little left to reward.  Every believer is required to bear fruit - spiritual works (the 30,60, 100 fold) and if there isn’t even a 30 fold, they have nothing left but the robe of righteousness not righteousnesses (plural - works of the Spirit).  Seiss has the best commentary on Revelation in my opinion and gives an excellent explanation of righteousness versus the righteousnesses of the saints.

Verse 23b has been debated by Bible scholars as to the correct grammar (punctuation), that is, should it be Christ, the first fruits, and afterward those that are Christ’s at His coming or how most translations have it: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are His at His coming. Verse 20 says Christ is risen from the dead and has become the first-fruits of them that sleep. That implies He is the first-fruits in Verse 23. First-fruits comes from a compound of two Greek words meaning to commence in order of time - the beginning. In the context of I Cor. 15, first-fruits seems to apply to Christ and His resurrection. However, James 1:18 and Revelation 14:4 refer to Christians as first-fruits. The debate goes on, but I think in I Cor. 15 Paul was referring to Christ’s resurrection as the first fruit unto the resurrection to eternal life.

It is my opinion as well as that of Dr. Stephen Jones that
only the dead and living overcomers of all the ages will experience the First Resurrection and receive their glorified bodies (spiritual flesh) and enter the inner sphere (the throne) of Lord’s the Kingdom. The carnal dead believers (non-overcomers) will not be raised and receive their glorified bodies (spiritual flesh) until time of the Second Resurrection (It is a misnomer that only unbelievers will take part in the second resurrection because people will die in the millennium including those who accept Christ). Carnal believers will appear at the Second Resurrection as well as the lost plus many who became believers during the millennium. There is no reason for the Book of Life to be opened for the dead as they will be judged by the books of the law.  However, carnal living/surviving believers as well as millennial saints will also need to be examined for their works. It is at this time that all the saints will have spiritual flesh and the same time as when Jesus gives His kingdom to the Father. Carnal non-overcoming living believers that survive the tribulation and DOTL will be consigned to the outside sphere of the kingdom (“outer darkness”). They will along with unbelievers who will be allowed in the kingdom as well as those born during the millennium need to be taught (instructed) in the Law of God by the Zadok priesthood (overcoming saints having spiritual flesh represented by the linen versus the woolen undergarments - linen is spiritual flesh and woolen is natural flesh).

To my knowledge I may be only the one that has ever attempted to write about the Outer Darkness. I wrote a lengthy article about it on my website. I think it is in the Topical Section.  I have not found a single bible teacher, pastor or author who addresses the Outer Darkness. The weeping and gnashing of teeth in the outer darkness is carnal believers who realize they missed the privilege of having spiritual flesh and intimate fellowship with the Lord in his kingdom. (Note: the weeping and gnashing of teeth only has to do with hell in one passage).

When I first came online with the BWV website, I found the website of Dr. Stephen Jones of God’s Kingdom Ministries and was amazed by his understanding (revelation) of the prophetic Scriptures and the Bible as a whole. After a short pastorate, the Lord put him in a 10-year wilderness experience and re-taught him the Word of God particularly end-time prophecy. My experience was similar as the Lord placed me in the same wilderness experience from 1992 - to 2001-2 and while there I saw the revelation truth for the posttribulation doctrine plus many other things. Dr. Jones and I established an online relationship and I have learned many things from his teachings.  One thing we differ on is that he is an historicist and believes most prophecy has already been fulfilled including the Book of Revelation, but does have a futuristic slant to unfilled prophecy.

While I had already seen in the Scriptures, only the overcoming believers (the dead saints and those alive at the Lord’s coming) will be raised to rule with Him in the millennial kingdom, his teachings further enhanced my understanding. I will like to share some of his revelation on this important subject.

(1) First, the resurrection and rapture cannot be understood apart from the Feast Days of the Lord given in the Books of the Law. Christians that do not understand the Law will be confused about end-time events particularly as they relate to the Church and Israel - a lot of confusion here.  However, I will discuss the resurrection in this brief commentary and save the rapture for another time.
Quotes from Dr. Jones:

“The root problem of the Church not understanding end-time events really comes down to ignorance of Sukkoth, the Feast of Tabernacles. Quite early in the history of the Church the law was discarded as being Jewish and so-called Christians rejected the revelation of the Second Coming of Christ.”

"The Feast of Passover prophesied of Christ’s death on the cross which was the primary purpose of His first appearing. Then He was raised from the dead and presented to the Father as the first-fruits of the barley harvest at the time the Wave Sheaf offering on the day after the Sabbath (Leviticus 23:11 - midweek Sabbath).  His presentation was at the third hour of the day while the priest was waving the sheaf of barley before the Father. The lawful act prophesied of His presentation. Then seven weeks later at Shavuot (Pentecost) the Holy Spirit was given to the Church (the people not an organization) in Acts 2. This fulfilled the prophetic law of Pentecost”.

"Thus ended the feast days prophesying of Christ’s first coming. The next set of feasts prophesied of His second coming and this culminates with the Feast of Tabernacles. If we define Harpazo the way the New Testament Greek does as a catching away (real rapture) not a catching up, in terms of this feast and its prophecy, we will stand on solid ground. If not, we will display our ignorance rather quickly”.

"Unfortunately, the modern rapture teachers developed their teachings with virtually no knowledge of the Feast of Tabernacles. Thus, they make it largely a New Testament teaching with no knowledge of Old Testament foundations. Yet we cannot understand His second coming without a thorough knowledge of Tabernacles”.

He is so right-on and was my problem when I was lost in the false doctrine of dispensational pretribulationism.

(2) Next some of his brief excerpts on the Church in tribulation:
“Many have assumed that Jesus was coming to catch away the saints so that they might escape the great tribulation that is said to be coming. As proof of this, Rev. 7:14 is brought out where it says, these are the ones who come out of the great tribulation. Yet this verse says nothing about ESCAPING tribulation”. In fact, they had to go through tribulation for Jesus said in Matt. 24:29-31 (one of the major scriptures I based my book on) that his coming to gather the elect will occur immediately after the tribulation of those days”.

"What it is most confusing is when Bible teachers say that gentile Christians will escape the tribulation while Jewish Christians will go through it on the earth. (Note: I believe a better wording is Jews in general not just Jewish Christians). This artificial distinction makes it possible for rapturists to apply Matt. 24: 29-31 to Jews and yet apply Rev. 7:14 to non-Jews” (I have pointed this out in several of my articles and teaching debunking pretribulationism- point mine)

"That view assumes the Jews are either Judah or Israel — neither of which is true as I show in my previous series on Judah and Joseph.  The Church is the continuation of the tribe of Judah (the good figs portion of Judah). And the 12 tribes in the dispersion of the House of Israel were never identified as Jews from the beginning”.  (Note: this revelation is what caused me to understand the True Christian Church is the Judah Church and the spiritual tribe of Judah, thus there is no such thing as replacement theology for the Judah Church has no need of replacing a false illegal modern state of Israel that is in rebellion to God and their own law).

The other thing he points out is what I was given the understanding before I even knew of Dr. Jones and that is the false teaching of the Left Behind books. Those left behind are the saints to enter the kingdom and those taken are unbelievers to judgment. The days of Lot prove that.

(3)
Resurrection Only for the Rulers (Overcomers):  Now we come to the main point in answering your question or statement about all believers resurrected at the same time. Dr. Jones article on this subject is too long to give here in this email so I will have to be selective in the excerpts. By the way, Dr. Jones gave me permission several years ago to use his material as long as I gave him the credit and I will surely do that.

“In the giving of the Law on Mount Sinai, we have the commemoration of the Feast of Trumpets with the two silver trumpets in Numbers 10:2.  God told Moses in Verse 3 that to assemble the congregation (kahal) they were to blow both silver trumpets, but to assemble only the rulers of the people they were to blow just ONE trumpet Verse 4. Third use of the trumpets was to blow an alarm for war - Verse 9.

"These three instructions prophesy of the purpose of the FOT and so these things tell us about the prophetic events that are yet to occur on this feast day. When we read I Thess. 4:16 and I Cor. 15:52 we cannot fail to notice there is but ONE TRUMPET prophesied in these passages dealing with the resurrection of the dead” (Note: in my book I point out that the Church trumpet is blown at the very same time as the 7th Trumpet bringing about the resurrection and rapture of the dead and living overcoming saints while the 7th Trumpet prepares the opening of the Vials of Wrath).

"WHO THEN IS RAISED?  According to the law, it is the rulers of the people not the CHURCH as a whole. Rapturist teachers today don’t know the law and so they commonly teach the whole church will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air in the first resurrection. This is not so. The first resurrection IS LIMITED to the rulers, that is, the overcomers - Rev. 20:4-6:

"And they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life (Notice the rest of the dead coming to life is a reference to believers not the unbelieving dead for they are not raised to life but to suffer the second death - emphasis mine) until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection (the better resurrection - point mine); over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests (of the order or Zadok - point mine) of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

I would add Rev. 2:26-27 and 3:21 that promises the overcomers the privilege of ruling and reigning with the Lord and to sit with Him on His throne. This is never promised to the non-overcoming carnal saints.

Back to Dr. Jones:
"It is clear the first resurrection includes ONLY those who will reign with Christ during the Tabernacles Age which is the same as the 1000 year millennial reign. As a young man, I was taught the Church would be raised at the first resurrection and the unbelievers raised at the end of the thousand years at the Great White Throne. But this is not what Jesus said in John 5:28-29”:

“29 Do not marvel at this: For an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice 29 and shall come forth; those who did the good deeds (the deeds of righteousnesses - point mine) to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment".

"This resurrection includes all who are in the tombs. Which resurrection is this?  It cannot be the first one because that one is clearly limited saying, the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were finished. So Jesus was clearly speaking of the second resurrection. Yet Jesus said that believers will be given LIFE at the same time unbelievers are judged. The plain fact is this:  The Church is looking for a rapture that will include all believers when in fact this will be LIMITED to the few. The Church is looking for a GREAT ESCAPE from tribulation when in fact if there is any escaping to be done, it will be limited to the few not the whole Church”.

(4) A Misunderstanding of the modern State of Israel:
“The third prophecy of the Feast of Trumpets is that the trumpets were to be blown to signal war against the adversary (Numbers 10:9). I suspect this prophesies the timing of Jerusalem’s destruction when God goes forth against His adversaries. Once again the Church assumes that anyone fighting the Jews are God’s adversaries. These religious leaders have never studied the Law books (the first five books of the Old Testament referred to as the Pentateuch - emphasis mine).

"Isaiah 63:9-10 says:

9 In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the angel of His presence saved them (Israel); In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them; and He lifted them and carried them all the days of old. 10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; therefore, He turned Himself to become their enemy. He fought against them”.

"Thus, God tells us that even if pure-blooded Israelites rebelled against Him, He would become their enemy and fight against them. They could not appeal to their genealogy to get God’s backing. So even if we were to consider today’s unbelieving Jews to be pure-blooded Israelites, it would not make God their friend or prevent Him from fighting against them”.

“Keep in mind that Jesus is the Yahweh of the Old Testament, the giver of the law to Moses. To rebel against Him is to rebel against God Himself for we read in Exodus 15:2:

"Yahweh
is my strength and song, and He has become my Yeshua (Jesus’s Hebrew name). This is my God and I will praise Him; my father’s God, and I will extol Him”.

“….The name Yeshua means salvation and so when Jesus was taken to the temple as a baby, Simeon was watching for the Messiah. He knew His name would be called Yeshua (Note: some translations spell Yeshua as Yashua, but the proper spelling is Yeshua). Thus in Luke 2:30 Simeon says, For my eyes have seen thy Salvation (Yeshua)”.

"And so the evil figs of Judah (See Jeremiah 24) rejected Jesus as the Messiah and usurped His scepter, they rebelled against the God of the Old Testament (Yahweh which is the same as Yeshua of the New Testament for Jesus said that if you have seen Me you have seen the Father - emphasis mine). The only way to become a good fig is to repent of this rebellion against Yahweh/Yeshua. Until this happens they (Israel or the Jews) are God’s adversaries”.

"In the law of tribulation in Leviticus 26, we read about the judgment that would occur upon Israel and How God would bring them captive into foreign lands. The solution is given in Verses 40-42:

40 ‘But if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me,
41 and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies;
if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guilt—
42 then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember;
I will remember the land”.
"While there are certainly individual Jews who have repented of their rebellion against Jesus, the Israeli state as a national unit will not repent before its destruction (Isaiah 29:1-6; Jeremiah 19:10-11). In fact, that nation is NOT under God’s covenant because according to the law above they must first repent before God remembers His covenant. They did not do this before 1948 are even today outside the covenant” (and are not the chosen people, only the Jews IN CHRIST are chosen along with all the elect Gentiles that make up the Judah Church - point mine).

Isaiah 29:1-6, makes it clear God considers Jerusalem to be His enemy and adversary. He is the one who will lay siege to the city and destroy it by the hands of men”. [End Dr. Jones commentary].
Very few know or understand the truth contained in this email but I pray you will allow the Holy Spirit to enlightened your understanding and not be taken in by false traditional teaching.
