The Churches Biblical Approach and Position On Homosexuality

1 Corinthians 5:1-12 NIV

1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father's wife. 2 And you are proud! Shouldn't you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? 3 Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present. 4 When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, 5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord. 6 Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? 7 Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast — as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. 9 I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. 12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."

1 Corinthians 6:1-20 NIV

1 If any of you has a dispute with another, dare he take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the saints? 2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4 Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, appoint as judges even men of little account in the church!   5 I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6 But instead, one brother goes to law against another — and this in front of unbelievers! 7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? 8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. 9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 12 "Everything is permissible for me"-but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"-but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"-but God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."   17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

The Supreme Court has heard the arguments on same-sex unions and will render their decision by June of this year. Even though the high court is not supposed to be political, it is clear great pressure is being exerted by both the proponents of same-sex unions and those who oppose it. Will they issue a decision that is based strictly upon Constitutional law and allow the states to decide the matter or will they declare a federal mandate legalizing same-sex unions in all 50 states and thereby subverting "states rights?" My gut feeling tells me that the Roberts court is again going to shock us and rule that all states must allow same-sex marriage. If that occurs as I have mentioned before, the United States in God's eyes will be officially a Sodomite nation and will bring the certain judgment of God.

This issue is dividing the Church with fundamental Christians strongly opposing it while liberal and moderate Christians are taking the politically correct approach that the Church should allow gay couples to wed and in addition, welcome them into the fellowship of the saints. What is the Bible's clear position on this polarizing situation?

In addressing this topic, I am not going to cite the usual passages that condemn homosexuality as a grave sin in Leviticus and Romans, but instead use the passages from Paul's letter to the Corinthians (above). While Paul does not mention homosexuality or same-sex unions directly, the implication of how the Church is to approach those who claim to be Christians yet continue to live in a state of sexual immorality is obvious. Regardless of what homosexuals portend, homosexuality and same-sex unions are immoral, therefore, by definition they are what these passages describe as "the sexually immoral."

Let's examine these passages and settle once and for all what the Church's approach and position "must be" toward homosexuals and same-sex unions. In the I Corinthians 5 passage, Paul is dealing with incest in the Body of Christ - the Church, which he finds their weak attitude toward a gross sin appalling - a man in the Church was having sex with his father's wife. Paul says such a sin is not even practiced among non-believers. Today that would probably not be true as lewd sex is practiced world over - people are having sex with animals here in America and one such large horse ranch is arranged for that purpose in Washington State (in the vision of the Inverted Pyramid I was shown, Washington State is destroyed by an earthquake and volcano combination).

Paul says that even though he is not physically present with this Church, he is in spirit and has passed judgment upon this wicked person to have him delivered over to Satan that his physical body or sinful nature may be destroyed in order that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.  Now, there is only one possible meaning of that statement - that Satan had the legal right to kill this errant believer (we know from Paul's second letter to the Corinthians that the man repented and was allowed back into the fellowship) because of this abominable sin; our sins allow the devil to attack us if not repented of and stopped.

The principal reason Paul wanted this sin (leaven) out of the Church is the negative influence it would have on the Church as a whole - the meaning of a little leaven leavens the whole lump. He further admonishes them not to associate with a sexually immoral person who claims to be a Christian. In fact, he tells them to expel or excommunicate the wicked person from their fellowship.

Now if homosexuality is sexually immoral, then the same instructions Paul gave to the Corinthians about incest in the Body of Christ applies to homosexuals who profess to be Christians. The Church is not to associate or allow into the Body of Christ professing believers that continue to live in an immoral homosexual lifestyle proving that are not genuinely born again and regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The same would apply to fornicators and adulterers. In Verse 11, Paul repeats for emphasis the Church is not to have anything to do with anyone who claims to be a believer yet is sexually immoral. This strikes in the face of so-called homosexual Christians who claim that "love" supersedes the moral laws of God or that God overlooks sin because He is a God only of love and not judgment.

Homosexuality is a gross sexually immoral sin that will result in judgment and torment in the Lake of Fire for an eternity if there is no repentance and turning from the sin. Homosexuals are not to be allowed in the Church as either members or worshipers.  If they approach the fellowship as wanting help to change from that lifestyle, then the Church is to help them find the truth, but only in that regard.

Now let's examine the second passage above in I Corinthians 6. Remember there were no Chapter and verse divisions in the Bible so Paul is continuing to address problems in the Church. Chapter 6 begins with a discussion of taking a believer to a worldly court to solve a dispute. He reprimands the Corinthians for not dealing with this matter themselves rather than going to a secular court. They had no understanding the saints will judge the world as well as the fallen angels - the meaning is that as the Bride of Christ, the Church will assist the Lord in judging unbelievers on the day of judgment.

Then in Verse 9 he returns to the narrative of Chapter 5 concerning the sexually immoral that attempt to associate with the Body of Christ.

9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God...

Homosexuals that refuse to repent and leave that lifestyle will never inherit the kingdom of God no matter how they may define that relationship in reference to the Christian faith. A lie is a lie the same as a pig is a pig no matter how it is dressed to look otherwise. A man having sex with a man and a woman having sex with a woman is both degenerate and lewd as well as unnatural. It overturns the natural order of creation, which God declared in Genesis 1:30 that everything He created was very good. For homosexuals to say God made them that way and He approves of their deviant lifestyle makes Him a liar about His creation for He made a man and a woman to unite in marriage and bear children - something not possible if He had made two men or two women.  If God had made two men and gave them the command to reproduce, that would have been impossible for He did not give a man a womb - only women have a womb. Further, if he had made two women, they also could not reproduce for they would have only a egg and no sperm to fertilize it. The laws of humans as well as the animal and vegetable kingdoms require opposite sexes to reproduce. When landscaping people come to our house to treat our trees they often refer to them as "him" and "her" trees. The animal kingdom is also the same - it takes a male and female to have offspring.

When God looks upon the homosexual movement He does not say it is very good, but rather an abomination to Him for it turns HIS TRUTH into a lie.

Notice in Verse 11, Paul says that some in the Corinthian Church had been (past tense) sexually immoral (homosexuals) meaning they repented and turned from that lifestyle.

In Verse 13, he says the Body (the physical body) is not meant for sexual immorality and further the spiritual Body of Christ is the temple of the Holy Spirit because the saints have been bought with a precious price, the blood of the Lord Jesus. Therefore, we are to honor God with both our physical and spiritual bodies.

In Verse 18, he says with strong Greek words - "Flee Sexual Immorality!"

Homosexuals dishonor their bodies and therefore cannot honor the Lord and have no part with the fellowship of the saints.

The Church should be truthful with homosexuals to tell them their sin is opposite of the truth and that they cannot worship or fellowship with true Christians. If they truly repent and turn from that lifestyle, then the Church stands ready to welcome them as part of our love feasts, BUT NOT BEFORE!

This is the biblical position of the Church not to placate or condone a deviant lifestyle.  Telling homosexuals the truth is true Christian love not appeasement.

Let me ask all my readers a question, what if the Church is forced to accept practicing homosexuals into our fellowships and they began to inundate our Churches as well as marrying and bringing their children - two men having daughters and the daughters calling them mommy and daddy or two women having sons and the sons referring to them as mommy and daddy, how would that make you feel and how would you explain the biblical definition of marriage and traditional family to your children?  It would be confusion and chaos, which Satan wants in order to destroy the Church in America.

We are very near a major spiritual crisis in America, which if it goes against the truth of the Word of God, will change this nation forever!
