What Does It Mean To Be Saved

The Wickedness of King Joash Brought Judgment on Judah
Dr. Allen M. Barber

2 Chronicles 24:17-20 (NLT)

17  But after Jehoiada’s death, the leaders of Judah came and bowed before King Joash and persuaded him to listen to their advice.
18  They decided to abandon the Temple of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, and they worshiped Asherah poles and idols instead! Because of this sin, divine anger fell on Judah and Jerusalem.
19  Yet the LORD sent prophets to bring them back to him. The prophets warned them, but still the people would not listen.
20  Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada the priest. He stood before the people and said, “This is what God says: Why do you disobey the LORD’s commands and keep yourselves from prospering? You have abandoned the LORD, and now he has abandoned you!”

How wonderful is the Word of God, it speaks to every issue whether directly and indirectly.

In this passage, King Joash listened to the wicked advice of the officials of Judah (the religious priests) and reversed the spiritual progress that was made under king Jehoiada. The Lord sent prophets to warn the people to turn back to Him, but king Joash and the people paid them no attention. They continued to worship worthless idols. Because of this, the Lord's anger burned against Judah and the city of Jerusalem where the temple stood - the place He choose to place His name.

Notice in Verse 20 it says the nation did not prosper because of disobedience. In a few short years, God brought judgment upon Judah with the Babylonians and destroyed the city of Jerusalem and the temple.

Is there a message in this for today - absolutely?

Under self-appointed king and dictator, Obama, he is turning the nation away from God in spite of the fact he has been warned by the prophets of God including recently Jonathan Cahn, who spoke a word of warning to the nation at the inaugural breakfast based upon the Isaiah 9:10 Judgment. Then Obama was warned by physician, Benjamin Carson, at the National Prayer Breakfast. Many others have spoken words of warning to Obama and the Congress including this writer, but like the officials and people of Judah, they are not listening.

If God destroyed Jerusalem, the city He called the "apple of His eye", and the temple, the place where he honored His name, would he be reluctant to destroy Washington, D.C.?  If we think that, we are foolish and naive. Remember the jet that was taken down over Pennsylvania by the brave people on board was headed for the nation's capitol. The Lord spared us and gave us some more borrowed time - it is His grace and mercy period to allow the nation to repent and turn back to Him, but we just build more buildings and defy Him even more aggressively as Isaiah 9:10 depicts.

Washington, D.C. may not be spared the next judgment. It may burn and nothing will be left but smoke and ashes. Maybe then we will repent and turn back to God.
