Wisdom's Call, Is Anyone Listening?
Dr. Allen M. Barber

Proverbs 1:20-33 (NKJV)

20 Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares.
21 She cries out in the chief concourses, At the openings of the gates in the city She speaks her words:
22 "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge.
23 Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.
24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded,
25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke,
26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes,
27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
28 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me.
29 Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD,
30 They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.
31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies.
32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;
33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil."

This is an awesome proverb and I only have a few minutes this morning to share some insights before I go to work. First, wisdom in this passage is a personification of the Lord for we know from I Corinthians 1:30 that Jesus is our wisdom. Where is He calling in Verse 1 - in the highways and byways of life where we live our lives? This is not a passage dealing with inside the assembly of the saints. The Lord by the Holy Spirit is calling all who pass by to turn to Him and learn true wisdom - something everyone in our Congress and the White House need to do for they show little evidence of having godly wisdom. They have a wisdom of this world, which is foolishness:

1 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)

20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NKJV)

19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness";

2 Corinthians 1:12 (NKJV)

12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.

Notice, the Holy Spirit (the author of all Scripture) says in I Cor. 3:19 that God catches the worldly wise in their own craftiness. What does that predict about Barack Hussein Obama who has hidden his records from the American people and lies often? God will catch him in his own craftiness and expose his deeds as foolish. The Hebrew meaning of catch in this passage is to entrap or surround with no way to escape. When God deals with Barack Obama, he will not be able to escape the truth coming forth.

Verse 23 is full of meaning and if you are keen you notice that the Word of God comes to us in knowledge and wisdom by revelation of the Holy Spirit. If you sincerely want to know the deep things of God via His Word, then you must trust and depend on the Holy Spirit for the revelation. Revelation knowledge is vastly different from intellectual knowledge for all people have some form of intellectual knowledge which only improves the mind but does not build up our spirits.

After the morning service yesterday, the Pastor brought a message (new series) on the Gray areas and his theme was that only one religion leads to heaven - the Christian faith. While everything he said was true, it lacked something. No one made decisions for the Lord even though the appeal was extended. I told my wife the message lacked power - the anointing of the Holy Spirit was not upon it. The pastor obviously has a good memory for he knows his points and Scripture without depending on notes as many do. However, the words seemed to have little conviction. A grown man sitting next to me never opened a Bible and played with his son the entire service - he could not tell you one word the pastor said.

Watchman Nee has a book, The Ministry of the Word, that if every minister would read and apply the principles, his message would burn with the anointing and power of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus spoke, the crowds hung on to His every Word for the anointing of the Holy Spirit was mighty upon him. The problem in most modern churches is that the pastors speak from their minds not from their spirits and the message reaches the mind of the listeners not their spirits.

Last, Verses 28-31 is a dire waring that if we continually reject the counsel of God, He will turn away from our prayers and the result will be that we shall eat the fruit of our own way meaning that we become like blind men groping in the dark who fall into a pit with no way to get out. This is precisely what is happening to the United States of America, we are being led by leaders who have no knowledge of God, who do not seek His counsel and shall be destroyed by their own foolishness. Unfortunately, they will take down the nation with them if the people do not rise up and call upon the Lord in repentance and faith. The Lord can replace these foolish leaders if the people will turn back to Him.
